4 Ways to Prepare Your Car for Winter

The change of season can put different demands on your car. In order to prepare for hazardous weather conditions and a decrease in daylight, the following tips will help you ready your car for the coming months.

  1. Fuel up: A full tank of gas can help prepare you for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. This assures you that you won’t run low on fuel if you’re caught in a traffic jam and your commute is taking longer than usual. Fueling up can also help your engine to run smoother during the winter months.

  2. Change headlight bulbs: Moving the clocks back for Daylight Saving Time means it will start to get dark earlier in the day. Driving at night can take some getting used to, especially when you’re navigating unlit roadways. To ensure that you get to and from your destination safely, you want to test your headlight bulbs to make sure that they’re working properly. If you encounter problems such as a burnt out bulb or cracks, your local car dealership can help you change them.

  3. Washer fluid: Window washer fluid is a necessity for winter driving. When you get your oil changed at the auto repair dealership, have them check your washer fluid gauge to ensure that it’s full. If you’re not ready for an oil change, you can master this maneuver on your own. With the help of your automobile manual, you can determine where you washer fluid basin is and fill it to the rim. If your windshield wipers have seen better days, you can replace the worn pieces with something new.

  4. Emergency road kit: If you’re planning on a long road trip during the winter months, a road kit can come in handy in case of an emergency. Included in this kit should be blankets, flares, flashlight, water, protein bars, cell-phone charger and tire repair kit.
